N.B. THE 2008 COURSE HAS FINISHED!
Course Details

Here are some details of the Learn to Sing Course sponsored by the Thames Valley Chorus.
- Venue
- The Piggot School
Wargrave Road, Twyford RG10 8DS
Location Map - Time
- Meet in the school Hall at 7:30pm for six consecutive Tuesdays starting on September 30th 2008. Each week the Course will finish at around 9:15pm when you will be free to leave or to join in with the Thames Valley Chorus who will also be rehearsing at the same venue.
- Week 1
- Introduction to the Course content. Followed by a mild physical warm up, a vocal warm up, and then some simple singing exercises (possibly in small groups). Next will be a Craft session (i.e. hints to help you achieve a better sound), plus learning a simple song in a key which does not rely on you having a high or low voice range.
- Week 2
- Identify your singing range and be allocated to the appropriate voice-part coach and others in your singing range. Warm up sessions as in week 1 followed by an introduction to the Course Song. The song is designed to give you the best opportunity to use the singing techniques, which you can later use to sing wherever you wish. There will be handouts each week with reminders of what you did in the Craft sessions.
- Weeks 3 - 5
- As well as joining with your singing-range group you will have been allocated an experienced "buddy" to stand alongside you and give personal support. Each week will begin with warm up sessions followed by tuition on the Course Song and use of vocal techniques. Your group will join with the other voice-part groups to learn how to sing the Course Song together.
- Week 6
- Warm up sessions followed by a final polish of the Course Song. You will have the opportunity to join in a mini-show, and you can invite guests to come along to enjoy your new singing prowess! The Thames Valley Chorus will also sing in the mini show, after which you will be awarded your Learn To Sing certificates of achievement. Wine and nibbles will be served to conclude the Course.
- Materials
- During the Course you will be issued with various handouts to serve as reminders of the techniques you have been taught. In addition you will be given sheet music for the Course Song along with a specially prepared mp3 file or CD containing your particular voice-part. All the materials will be contained in a personal binder which will build up as the Course progresses and which you can keep as a reminder after the Course is completed. If you wish to contribute to the cost of these materials a £10 donation will be gratefully received but this is not obligatory.
